Over the past few years, ATCC has been working toward providing authenticated whole-genome sequences of our microbial collection via the ATCC Genome Portal. We recently reached a new milestone in our journey. We now have more than 4,000 genomes available on the portal! We are the only authenticated reference genome database for ATCC microbes

Changes to ATCC Genome Portal access

Thank you for your continued support as we have grown the ATCC Genome Portal to include over 4,100 reference genomes. Please note some changes to our ATCC Genome Portal service. As you know, we have been providing access to the ATCC Genome Portal to you free of charge. However, to ensure the long-term sustainability of the portal, and so that we can continue to provide you with reference-quality genomes, we are transitioning the ATCC Genome Portal to a supporting membership service starting May 1, 2024.

With a supporting membership to the ATCC Genome Portal, you will have access to all the features and benefits you experience now in addition to all future extended capabilities such as bulk download options, Discrepancy Reports, and more. If you choose not to pursue a supporting membership, you will still have access to the genomic data for strains you purchase from ATCC as well as the ability to search for and view genomes of interest on the ATCC Genome Portal.

We appreciate your patience and understanding during this transition. For more details about this change, please visit online. If you have any questions or would like to provide us with feedback, please don't hesitate to contact us at nextgen@atcc.org.

  • Reporter-labeled Cells

    Reporter-labeled Cells

Reporter-labeled cell lines are invaluable research tools for studying gene expression and for screening cell lines. Some of the most commonly used reporter systems are those that induce a visually identifiable phenotype such as the emission of fluorescent or luminescent light or the production of a pigmented product. Fluorescent reporters exhibit a fluorescent signal upon exposure to specific wavelengths of light; luminescent reporters use a luciferase enzyme to catalyze a reaction with its substrate, luciferin, to produce visible light; and chromogenic reporters employ an enzyme label that reacts with a substrate to produce a pigmented product.

    Advantages of Reporter-labeled Cultures

Reporter systems have an array of applications in the basic and applied sciences. In biological research, reporter systems provide a measurable and distinguishable phenotype that can be applied in the analysis of:

    • Quantification
    • Detection
    • Host-pathogen interactions
    • Drug discovery
    • Compound screening
    • Toxicity studies
    • In vivo imaging
    • Quality control
    • Pathway research
    • Differentiation studies
